2. Research & Reading: Take at least 10-15 minutes to do some researching and reading to gather all your resources and store it in your memory.
3. Environment & Location: Environment and location in the studio are important but that will be up to the engineer himself. Choosing where you will be setting up for a live mix or a live recording session is important as to the set up of microphone, soundproofing and speakers can really change the dynamics of the sound.
4. Reference of Works: Believe it or not but getting feed back and reference can be very useful and helpful. Set yourself up for a lot of critics but know how to absorb all the negative and turn them into a positive.
5. Your Ears: Your ears, again and finally will always be the most used tool in the studio. So get familiar with the how changing frequencies, mixing down songs can also inadvertently change sounds, the instruments, beat tempo and vocals.
